Free Credit Report

Forget the singing pirates on TV, and all the ads that scream, "Free Credit Report"!!! These are anything but free, and you will end up paying for something that you can, actually get for FREE. OK, so how exactly do you go about doing that?

Getting your FREE credit report
First of all, the real site to go get a free credit report is Annualcreditreport.com. You can call them at 877-322-8228 if you don't want to do this online. This is the ONLY authorized source for free credit reports under federal law. All you need is the basic credit report, at least to begin with, and this is completely free. Of course you will see marketing offers galore, but click "No thanks" on all of them and your credit report will still be free, at one per year.

Not just that, but in fact, you can get one FREE credit report per year from EACH of the three credit reporting agencies!! So in fact, if you play this one right, you can actually get THREE free credit reports per year, one from each agency. I would do this every 4 months, so that you can see your credit report for free 3 times a year, and it won't cost you a dime.

What you get for free:
Your Payment History for
1) each credit card you have
2) mortgage if you have one
3) any other loans you have

What you don't get for free:
Your credit score.
You won't know your credit score from your free report. I would say that this is not absolutely necessary unless your ID has been stolen, or you have been denied credit etc. If you want to know this score, you have to pay a fee.

What to do, now that you have the free credit report:
Check your credit report for accuracy. Each agency reports things just a bit differently, and the credit reports are full of confusing codes and abbreviations, and can be hard to read. BUT, you should be able to see at a glance if there are major issues. For example, if you know you pay your mortgage on time, but a payment shows up late or missing, you know it's wrong. Don't worry too much about understanding everything on the report, and instead, just focus on basic things you can correct.

What if there are errors in my credit report:
You have to contact the agency in writing. A certified letter, along with documentation of why you think this is an error is needed. For example, if you paid your mortgage with a check, include a copy of the check, or a bank statement showing that it has cleared.

Disclaimer:
Yup, all of the legalese goes here. I am just posting what I know about this topic, so if there is anything you can take away from this, that's great, if not, no big deal either. Nothing in this article is meant to tell you what you should do in your own individual circumstance, and I am sure paid professionals will be happy to provide that advice.

Here you will pay the deadline invoice, refund the personal loan, negotiate with the creditor when you are late for the invoice, reduce the outstanding credit card balance, leave the credit account open it is necessary.
You need to do your research and understand how stations determine their credit score.
After 6 months after that appropriate, you, please contact the office as you to tell the score with your credit bureau report. If the data is correct, you should see a big change in your credit score.
